How to Replace an audi new key q7 replacement audi key fob key (click to find out more) G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It is a little tricky to test as there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got zero Ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.
I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could cause the engine shutting down.
A failing G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part would be a good option.
5. Tachometer
A faulty engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues in your vehicle. It's a vital component of your audi replacement key cost uk's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is turning. This sensor Audi Q7 Replacement Key can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.
The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This part is common across the audi car key replacement cost 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
